Waghon Reflects On Winner

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010

For the second time in four games Leicester City had striker Martyn Waghorn to thank for scoring the winning goal as he continues to impress at the head of City's front three.

Waghorn followed up his winner at Doncaster, by netting against play-off rivals Cardiff City and the youngster is hoping to keep up the good work between now and the end of the season.

"Hopefully I will get into double figures. We have quite a few more games to go and hopefully if I can keep playing and scoring then I can reach my targets."

The win over Cardiff moved Nigel Pearson's side five points clear of the Bluebirds and Waghorn reflected on a good win and his own vital contribution.

"They are a tough side Cardiff. We started off brightly and obviously I am more than happy to get the goal.

I thought I was going to miss it but it hit my big toe and got there in the end. I am just happy that we got the three points."

Waghorn is currently enjoying a sustained run in the first team in the absence of Matty Fryatt and says he is benefiting from the experience, but also praised the City's other attackers for their support.

"I am the main striker but I have players running around me. I have got Paul Gallagher and Lloyd Dyer out wide and Matt Oakley just behind.

I have been told to play higher up the pitch and occupy the two centre-backs and it is paying dividends."
