Sousa On Burnley Reverse

Posted on: Sat 21 Aug 2010

City boss Paulo Sousa was left frustrated as his side slipped to a 3-0 defeat away at Burnley and believes the Foxes' deserved more after a positive first half display.

The visitors were the better side, until a Ross Wallace shot took a huge deflection to wrong foot substitute 'keeper Conrad Logan.

Sousa says that the opener really deflated his team, who have now taken just one point from their opening three games.

"It is a very disappointing result for the way we started the game. We controlled the first half.

But when you concede a goal right at the end of the half, the way it was conceded, it is not easy for the team who had been in control for those 45 minutes to have a reaction.

After the break Chris Iwelumo and Graham Alexander scored to make the margin of victory a flattering one in Sousa's opinion.

"We started the second half ok but every time we made a small mistake we conceded a goal and it is difficult for the team to react.

It is frustrating because we did not deserve that result. In the first half we were the better team.

Striker Matty Fryatt was not in the squad because of an Achilles tendon injury and was not going to be risked, if it meant losing Fryatt for the long term.

"He is an important player and we want to keep our players in good shape because we could risk of losing him for one or two months."

The result leaves City bottom of the league after three games but Sousa has urged Leicester fans to keep the faith.

"Of course I want to win every game and it is frustrating when you are not getting the reward you deserve.

I am a manager with a lot of confidence and I know what way we need to walk and one thing I want to pass on to our fans is that they need to support us and believe in our work. The results will come."
