Sousa Hopes For Change Of Luck

Posted on: Wed 25 Aug 2010

The way that Ross Wallace gave Burnley the lead at Turf Moor on Saturday seems to sum up Leicester City's start to the season. Despite being in control for much of the first half in Lancashire, a deflected goal deflated City and they slipped to a 3-0 defeat.

Paulo Sousa now takes his team to Elland Road, as City take on Leeds United in the Carling Cup, Second Round.

Leeds won for the first time since returning to the Championship on Saturday, and Sousa expects a difficult evening as City aim to book their place in the third round.

"Leeds is always an interesting place to go. They are a historic club with big support. It will be an important test which will help us develop what I want from our players and we will go there to win the game like we tried to do on Saturday.

"Hopefully we will get a little more luck which the manager of Burnley recognised we did not get there and we need to have that sometimes to get a result because in general, we know our squad to be well organised and capable of doing well."

City had a couple of good opportunities to take the lead in the first half on Saturday, but Dany N'Guessan and DJ Campbell both squandered chances before Wallace gave Burnley the lead.

Sousa believes that his new team must become more lethal in front of goal, as they look to build on a difficult start to the season.

"What we can see already is that this is a team who will create chances. We need to be more clinical. We should not need four or five chances to score a goal, now we need it to be one or two.

Also we need to control the opposition much better. In the last games we have been penalised with small mistakes but we can see a well organised squad who will create chances."

On the injury front, goalkeeper Chris Weale's shoulder injury is not as bad as first feared but he is unlikely to be rushed back. Matty Fryatt and Lloyd Dyer also missed the Turf Moor game and Sousa is hoping they can return against Reading on Saturday (August 21st, 5:20pm).

"Matty and Lloyd will start to integrate into a small part of the training today and hopefully by the end of the week they will be available to play."
