Richard Mellor at Elland Road

Seventeen-year-old Harry Panayiotou scored a late winner on his City debut as Nigel Pearson's men finished the season on a high with a 2-1 win over Leeds at Elland Road.

The Foxes led through Martyn Waghorn in the first half, before the hosts equalised in the 82nd minute through substitute Danny Webber.

But it was academy prospect Panayiotou who stole the headlines, prodding home a Ben Marshall shot to condemn Leeds to a record 11th home defeat of the campaign.

Leeds were first to threaten, with two clear opportunities spurned by Robert Snodgrass and Luciano Becchio - former Leeds 'keeper Kasper Schmeichel on hand to twice deny the hosts.

Chances came thick and fast for both sides and central midfielder Danny Drinkwater threw himself in front of an Adam Clayton shot following sustained pressure from the hosts. Clayton, who scored the winner when the two sides met at King Power Stadium in November, was unfortunate to not be celebrating his second goal against Leicester this season.

But City, who came into the game sitting two points ahead of Neil Warnock's men, had chances of their own within the first half-an-hour. A curling free kick from young winger Ben Marshall forced a fine save from Andrew Lonergan - both goalkeepers on form in the early stages.

Again Leeds threatened, but their ever-lively captain Snodgrass, who has bagged a total of 13 goals this season, fluffed his half-volley deep in the City box, failing to unsettle the composed and confident Schmeichel.

But the Foxes absorbed the Leeds counter-attacks and Waghorn, who returned from a hamstring injury in City's defeat to West Ham at the King Power Stadium on Monday night, sent the Blues into the lead.

The former Sunderland striker latched onto a sliced clearance by Michael Brown, held off the challenging defender and slotted past Lonergan with six minutes of the first half remaining.

City came out the brighter after the break, with Waghorn coming close to doubling his tally, firing a powerful right-footed shot into the chest of Lonergan after substitute Darius Vassell, himself returning from injury, headed on at the near post.

Leicester restricted Leeds to little or nothing in the early stages of the second half, while chances for Lloyd Dyer and Marshall could have sealed the win for the Foxes.

At the other end, centre-backs Sean St. Ledger and Wes Morgan successfully quelled Ross McCormack - the prolific Leeds front-man who has netted 19 goals this season.

Teenager Panayiotou replaced Dyer for the final 15 minutes of the match. The youngster made an immediate impact, playing a give and go with Marshall, whose low cross was cut out by Alex Bruce.

But the hosts, who created very little in the second period, snatched an equaliser eight minutes from time. Snodgrass pounced on a loose ball and squared it to substitute Webber who had the simple task of tapping in from three yards - Elland Road briefly erupting in celebration.

Drinkwater's bursting runs from midfield saw him brought down twice in the United penalty area, but his claims were waved away and City were left frustrated having dominated the second half.

But in a dramatic late twist, Leicester grabbed the three points that their efforts had deserved.

Marshall cut in from the right and skipped past two defenders before striking a low shot into the path of Panayiotou, who turned it past a stranded Lonergan before being mobbed by his delighted team-mates.

The Blue Army celebrate, already dreaming of what next season might bring.
