Leicester City edged closer to a Championship return on Monday as they defeated Leeds United 1-0 at the Walkers Stadium.
The game looked to be heading for a goaless draw before a Steve Howard header deep into stoppage time gave the Foxes victory.
Both sides came close to breaking the deadlock but fine saves from David Stockdale and Fabian Delph from Andy King and Ben Turner respectively kept the scores level until the dying moments of the game.
But Howard's 13th league goal of the season made sure the Foxes recorded back-to-back Easter weekend wins.
Nigel Pearson made one change to the side that defeated Hereford United on Saturday with Max Gradel replacing Bruno Berner in the starting eleven.
Meanwhile the visitors were without leading goalscorer Jermain Beckford - Liam Dickinson and Luciano Beccio lead the attack for United.
Leicester were the first to show following kick-off but Howard's flick-on to Lloyd Dyer was dealt with by the onrushing Casper Ankergren.
And the Foxes came close to breaking the deadlock in the fifth minute - good work from Howard once again presented Dyer with an opportunity from the angle but Sam Sodje turned the winger's shot behind for a corner.
Max Gradel tested the reflexes of Ankergren moments later before Richard Naylor intercepted a drilled cross from Matty Fryatt in the 11th minute of the contest.
The visitors responded five minutes later with continued pressure before Luciano Beccio fired wide of David Stockdale's left-hand post on the turn.
But Leicester were presented with another opportunity moments later as Howard turned back a Gradel corner - Andy King rose above everyone else but his cushioned heard fell kindly for Ankerergren.
And the Leeds goalkeeper had to be alert again moments later as a jinking run from Dyer threatened the United defence
Referee Lee Mason produced the first yellow card of the game in the 25th minute as Beccio responded to a challenge from Wayne Brown.
And the card was out again five minutes later as Brown manhandled Beccio on the halfway line as the visitors looked to mount a counter-attack.
Ankergren parried a Gradel cross before Howard connected with an Oakley corner in the 37th minute but headed over under pressure.
Stockdale made hard work of a United corner on 40 minutes as he turned the flag kick onto his own crossbar before a speculative effort from Robert Snodgrass failed to hit the target as halftime approached.
And the City keeper had to be at his best to turn away a Liam Dickinson header shortly after the restart before Sodje failed to direct Snodgrass' free-kick goalward in the 53rd minute.
But it was the hosts who crafted the next opportunity as a neat move between Fryatt and Howard created space for King, however the midfielder's attempt to find the corner was foiled by the outstretched arm of Ankergren.
Fryatt fired wide on the hour following a mazy run from Dyer before Oakley found his name in the referee's notebook following a late challenge on Beccio.
Simon Grayson made his first change on 64 minutes with Andy Robinson replacing Beccio for Leeds.
Stockdale was called into action in the 69th minute with Delph baring down on goal but the shot-stopper got down well to keep the scores level.
At the other end Dyer found space to cross for Howard however the striker could only direct his header straight down the throat of Ankergren.
The United keeper held on to a tame Fryatt effort moments later before the striker made way for Paul Dickov in the 76th minute.
Gradel was next into the book for dissent then Andy Hughes replaced Kilkenny for United with 13 minutes on the clock.
Substitute Robinson produced another fine save from Stockdale with the game entering the final stages before Sodje was cautioned for deliberate handball from the resulting corner kick.
The visitors made their final change in the 83rd minute with Mike Grella replacing Dickinson.
Howard saw yellow for comments made following a foul before Bruno Berner replaced Mattock for Leicester.
A Gradel corner was headed wide by King as the game entered stoppage time before the Foxes snatched all three points with seconds remaining.
A right-sided flag kick from Gradel found an unmarked Howard ghosting in at the far post and the targetman made no mistake powering his header into the top corner and grab victory at the death.
