A Michael Morrison brace extended Leicester City's unbeaten run to five games as they signed off their 2008/09 home campaign with a 2-2 draw against Scunthorpe United at the Walkers Stadium.

The defender's early strike was cancelled out by Paul Hayes ten minutes into the second half before a Grant McCann penalty gave the visitors the advantage.

However Morrison's third goal of the season fifteen minutes from time meant the capacity crowd remained in good voice ahead of the League One trophy presentation.

Nigel Pearson made three changes to the side that clinched promotion at Southend on Saturday with Chris Powell, Marc Edworthy and Steve Howard returning to the starting lineup.

The visitors created the first opportunity of the contest inside three minutes as Gary Hooper escaped the offside trap, however David Stockdale was quick prevent any the danger.

And the Scunthorpe striker rode a challenge from Jack Hobbs five minutes later but the City shot-stopper was once again equal to the effort.

Nigel Adkins was forced to make his first change a minute later as Joseph Mills replaced the injured Andrew Wright.

The Foxes came close to breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute when Matt Oakley presented Matty Fryatt with an opening - but the striker was denied from a tight angle by the fingertips of Joe Murphy.

However the League One Champions didn't have to wait long to seize the advantage and were ahead inside 15 minutes.

A right-sided corner from Max Gradel was headed goalward by Steve Howard and Morrison quick to pounce from close range to grab his second goal of the season.

Good work down the right from Chris Powell almost opened the door a second time before Paul Hayes' stinging effort was turned away at the other end.

A neat move between Hooper and Matthew Sparrow in the 25th minute caused more problems for the Leicester defence however a timely interception from Morrison denied the visitors once again.

Howard was cautioned on the half-hour for a late challenge on Murphy before a confrontation between Cliff Byrne and Powell resulted in yellow cards for both players.

A testing Gradel free-kick was well held by Murphy on 42 minutes before a goal line clearance from Mills denied Fryatt in stoppage time with Lloyd Dyer rattling the crossbar from the rebound.

The visitors made their second change at the break with Hooper making way for Henri Lansbury.

And the Iron were first to show following the restart - a right-sided Grant McCann corner was glanced wide by Krystian Pearce.

McCann watched his curling free-kick drop the wrong side of the crossbar in the 55th minute before the visitors drew level two minutes later. A teasing cross from Martyn Woolfood fell kindly for Hayes who made no mistake from ten yards firing underneath Stockdale.

McCann tried his luck from long range on the hour but his left-foot strike failed to trouble Stockdale.

Nigel Pearson made a double change in the 63rd minute with Bruno Berner and Astrit Ajdarevic replacing Edworthy and Powell.

The Iron were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute as Hobbs dragged down Hayes inside the area - McCann made no mistake with the resulting spot-kick to put the visitors 2-1 ahead.

But the lead only lasted ten minutes as Howard turned back Oakley's free-kick to Morrison who looped the ball over Murphy to record his second goal of the game and third of the season.

Gradel made way for Paul Dickov in the 79th minute with both sides holding firm in the closing stages..
