Leicester City were left frustrated after a second successive 0-0 draw at the Walkers Stadium, this time held by Sean O'Driscoll's Doncaster Rovers.
The game's main talking point came just short of the half-hour, Matty Fryatt was stretchered off after a collision with Rovers skipper Brian Stock. The striker lay motionless after the impact and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken jaw.
The home side created the first chance of the match when Fryatt got through only to be given narrowly off-side. At the other end, James Hayter saw a shot deflected wide, and then City struggled to deal with two Rovers' corners in quick succession.
Back came City and Dany N'Guessan cut in from the left for a shot just wide. Oakley then fed Morrison on the right for a good cross into the middle and Fryatt just failed to connect. Moments later Fryatt was fouled wide on the right and Gallagher's free-kick led to Andy King shooting over.
Then came Fryatt's horrific collision with Stock. He was stretchered off after a seven-minute stoppage, and replaced by Martyn Waghorn.
City pressed during the closing stages of the half, and came closest through a Gallagher corner which was headed over by young defender Jack Hobbs.
City's brightest spell of the match came straight after the restart, Waghorn got in behind the Doncaster defence only to be but crowded out. Next Gallagher went through on goal only to lob the ball agonisingly over the bar.
N'Guessan was next to go close, bursting through the middle only for his shot to be saved by Sullivan's outstretched leg.
Rovers' only reply at this stage was a James Coppinger shot saved easily by Chris Weale but the City keeper had to work harder later when he raced out to foil Billy Sharp who was chasing a through ball.
Fortunately defeats for Sheffield United and Blackpool mean City extend their advantage in sixth, but it is likely to come as little consolation for manager Nigel Pearson.
