The Foxes landed a Championship double when they repeated the scoreline from the first meeting in this exciting clash at Bloomfield Road.
Dany N'Guessan opened the scoring early on, Lloyd Dyer increased their lead after the break but it was far from over as Blackpool's Stephen Dobbuie scored with two minutes of normal time left to set up a tense finish which included five minutes of stoppage time.
City made one change from last weekend, Dany N'Guessan in for the suspended Richie Wellens. New signing Alex Bruce was on the bench along with young prospect Aman Verma.
The visitors made their presence felt right away when N'Guessan won a corner inside the first minute. It was cleared and soon after, a short pass-back by Ian Evatt came because he was under pressure from Matty Fryatt, the keeper gathering. Next came a good chance, Fryatt going clear on the right and cutting in for a shot well saved by Matthew Gilks for a corner which fell to Paul Gallagher who shot wide.
But the home side came so close moments later when a great shot from Stephen Dobbie brought out a brilliant save from Chris Weale, tipping the ball onto the bar at full stretch. Next a Bannan low cross was well cleared by Wayne Brown with the attack closing in.
Then City took the lead, a through ball sending N'Guessan clear and from the left side of the area he turned the ball in off the far post in the 14th minute.
The Seasiders tried for an early reply, a fine shot from Charlie Adam being well saved by Weale and then from a free kick, City's defence proved too strong, restricting the home side to some long-range efforts.
At the other end, a fine shot from Andy King was turned wide by the keeper for a corner which led to a second one from which, in an almighty scramble, the ball was turned off the Blackpool line. In the closing stages of the half, a shot from Keith Southern came close and in stoppage time, Weale gathered safely to end a period of hectic pressure.
City restarted strongly and from an N'Guessan cross from the left, Fryatt headed just over. They came closer moments later when another N'Guessan cross was met close in by Waghorn but his cross was amazingly blocked by the keeper.
After a Dobbie shot had been sent over from a good chance, and two corners in succession had been repelled, a King header fell to Adam for a 25-yarder well saved by Weale again
Then in the 77th minute, City increased their lead with a fine goal, Fryatt finding room on the right to cross for Dyer to apply the finishing touch in the middle.
The home side nearly slipped further behind when an N'Guessan cross was headed in by Dyer and the keeper blocked his effort right under the bar.
Then came Dobbie's strike and City were pushed back, surviving a penalty shout when Sdam went down in the area, only to be booked for the dive and for the closing moments, Bruce came on for his debut to see City safe.
