A share of spot-kicks meant a share of the spoils as Leicester City drew with Peterborough United at the Walkers Stadium tonight.
The visitors had gone ahead in the first half through a George Boyd penalty but early in the second, after a handball in the area, Matty Fryatt blasted City level. The home side seemed to have the edge but neither team could tip the balance.
City made one change from Saturday's winning line-up, Paul Gallagher coming in for Lloyd Dyer who took Gallagher's place on the bench
Right away City went forward and a Richie Wellens pass to Matty Fryatt was just cleared but at the other end a clearance fell straight to Craig Mackail-Smith whose shot on the turn needed a smart save from Chris Weale. Moments later, a header from George Boyd sailed just wide, too close for comfort, as was an effort from Lee Frecklington soon after.
But at the other end, City looked good when a Steve Howard flick to Dany N'Guessan saw the winger send a pass towards Fryatt but it was a fraction too strong then City should have gone ahead when the Posh defence got itself at sixs and sevens, Fryatt being crowded out as he tried to convert the loose ball, N'Guessan finally turning the ball wide as Posh scrambled to rceover.
Then the Foxes were stunned in the 31st minute when Wayne Brown and Aaron Mclean tangled in the box. It could easily have been a foul in City's favour but the referee came down on the side of the striker to give a penalty, fired home by Boyd.
Incredibly, though, City almost scored twice in the following minute, a Howard header cleared off the line and Fryatt, clean through, fired wide when he could at least have hit the target. The home side were in full cry now and a Gallagher shot needed a great save from Joe Lewis, the striker being foiled by the keeper later, the heat staying on and a Neilson chip being turned away at the last moment, leaving City trailing at the break when they could have been well ahead.
City came out fired up for the restart, Aleksandar Tunchev and Andy King on for Brown and N'Guessan respectively and the home side were celebrating only two minutes in, a Gallagher shot hitting the bar and Robbie Neilson's follow-up shot was handled by Posh defender Tom Williams, Fryatt making no mistake from the spot.
Posh nearly recovered when, from a corner on the right, Gabriel Zakuani steered a free header wide and Mackail-Smith came close with a 25-yard volley which sailed just wide of the left-hand post.
City still looked the better bet and when a Neilson shot was deflected for a corner, Howard's header was just over.
Right to the end, City kept going forward and a Bruno Berner effort was just wide from a Gallagher cross to prevent City from retaining their perfect home record.
