Foxes new boys hit the heights with goals from Martyn Waghorn and Dany N'Guessan giving City a 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Walkers Stadium this afternoon after being behind at the break.

Both the goal heroes came on at the interval to spark a superb second-half display which even included a missed penalty by Steve Howard but City were not to be denied.

Goalkeeper Chris Weale and midfielder Richie Wellens were handed their first League starts and in a great boost, the lethal striking partnership of last season, Matty Fryatt and Steve Howard, was restored with Fryatt having emerged fully fit after missing some of the pre-season build-up through a leg infection.

Two other newcomers N'Guessan and new loanee from Sunderland, Waghorn, were on the bench, this season now comprising seven players. Robbie Neilson began a two-match suspension held over from last season's Scottish Premier League action last season.

City started brightly with Fryatt almost getting through on the left of the area but the keeper came out to gather then at the other end Swansea's Mark Gower twisted and turned before shooting just over from 20 yards.

The home side then carved out a good chance, a superb cross from the right from Oakley was met on the far side by Lloyd Dyer for a first-time volley on target but blocked at the last moment.

After Wellens sent Oakley in, covered well by Alan Tate, then Steve Howard sent a shot over, the visitors took the lead against the run of play

In the 15th minute, they won a corner on the right, taken by Gower and defender Ashley Williams headed home in the middle.

That was a blow for City but they battled back and when they gained a corner of their own a few minutes later, it was only just cleared. Fryatt was crowded out when an opportunity loomed and in the final moments of the half, Fryatt was again the danger man in the area but his shot was blocked.

City made those two key changes at the break, Waghorn and N'Guessan on for King and Fryatt and right away N'Guessan had a shot blocked after a Dyer cross had been deflected to him.

The home side looked a far sharper side now and in the 51st minute, a superb run by Bruno Berner into the area led to him being tripped for a penalty but the Swans keeper Dorus De Vries guessed the right way to save.

It was frustrating for City who were looking the better side and the Swans must have felt they were off the hook but far from it. City continued to play well and got their reward in the 68th minute when a Waghorn shot went home with the aid of a deflection

It was no more than City deserved and three minuites later, they were in front when an Oakley corner from the left was knocked down by Howard for N'Guessan to force the ball home.

It was all City now and in the closing stages, a cross from Nicky Adams, on for Dyer, was met by N'Guessan in the middle and his powerful header beat the keeper but rebounded off the bar when it would have killed the contest.

But City were rarely tested after that and celebrated a fine opening day win. There were bookings for Howard and Wellens but nothing could spoil the day for the Blue Army.
