Goals from Dany N'Guessan and Matty Fryatt after the break saw Leicester City safely through their Carling Cup first round tie at Moss Rose this evening.

And it earned them a second round clash against Preston at Deepdale in the week beginning August 24.

City made four changes from Saturday, Luke O'Neill in at right back with Michael Morrison moving across to the middle for Wayne Brown and Chris Powell replaced Bruno Berner at left back. Dany N'Guessan started for Andy King, on international duty, with Matt Oakley moving infield and Nicky Adams came in for Lloyd Dyer on the left.

The visitors started brightly and from an early free kick Steve Howard headed just wide. A foul on Fryatt on the edge of the area led to the next chance, Adams's free-kick being turned away at full stretch by goalkepeer Jon Brain before City had a scare at the other end.

Ben Wright got through into the area and his cut-back was cleared in the nick of time by Powell but normal service was soon restored with City re-establishing their command and came so close to the opener their play deserved.

A rasping shot from Matt Oakley came back off the left hand post and rebounded straight into the keeper's hands when it could have gone anywhere.

Towards the break, City pressed harder, a Richie Wellens shot going just wide then great work by Fryatt saw him beat the keeper but his shot was cleared off the line denying City the half-time lead they deserved.

Soon after the restart, a long-range effort from Adams sailed over before City got the breakthrough in the 58th minute. A long throw from Oakley was touched on by Howard into the mix and N'Guessan scored with an astonishing back-heel effort.

Having laid on the opener, Howard came close to one of his own when he fired in a great shot which brought an equally great save from Brain then a driven cross from O'Neill was glanced wide by the head of Fryatt.

City escaped an Izak Reid deflected shot which hit the bar before the visitors sealed it. A long pass sent Fryatt through. The striker checked past his defender before blasting home a superb finish.

That was the tie sealed effectively and it could have been more, Martyn Waghorn, on for Fryatt, chipping just wide of an empty net with the keeper out his goal.
