Promising full-back Kerrea Gilbert became manager Nigel Pearson's fifth signing of the summer following Michael Morrison, Lloyd Dyer, Nicky Adams and Aleksandar Tunchev to the Walkers Stadium on Thursday, July 10.

He made his debut against MK Dons on the opening day of the 2008-2009 League One season and has gone on to be a regular in Nigel Pearson's team. 

After progressing through the youth ranks at Arsenal, the Hammersmith-born defender made his first-team debut on November 29, 2005 against Reading in the League Cup and on December 7, he played in a UEFA Champions League match against Ajax, coming on as a substitute at left-back for the injured Lauren.

The 21-year-old started the Gunners' FA Cup win over Cardiff City in January, 2006 which was the start of a six-match run of appearances before making his Premier League debut on January 21, 2006 at Everton.

Gilbert joined Championship outfit Cardiff City for the entire 2006-07 campaign and went on to make 26 appearances for the Bluebirds, as they narrowly missed out on the Play-offs.

Southend United was Gilbert's next port of call as he put pen-to-paper on a six-month loan deal on July 30 last year.

He made six appearances before returning in January.

After switching back to Arsenal, he was an unused substitute in their game against Blackburn Rovers in February.
