- Brendan Rodgers reacts to Leicester City's 1-1 draw with Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium- After James Ward-Prowse's penalty for the 10-man hosts, Jonny Evans equalised for the Foxes- Rodgers commentated on the quality of City's goal and the exciting run-in still to come- Leicester are keen to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, Rodgers adds
Jonny Evans' 68th-minute header secured a point for the Foxes on the south coast, following James Ward-Prowse's penalty seven minutes prior. After an early red card for Saints defender Jannik Vestergaard, however, Leicester were frustrated not to emerge with all three points. But City remain third in the Premier League and are currently eight points clear of fifth-placed West Ham United with four games still to play, although several of the teams around them have one more outing in their schedules over the coming weekend. After waves of pressure at St. Mary's Stadium, Leicester finally got their reward with 22 minutes remaining. It came as Kelechi Iheanacho's creative cross was nodded beyond Alex McCarthy by Evans, who headed home his second goal in three games for the Club. Reflecting on the goal, Rodgers told LCFC TV: "[Iheanacho] didn’t have so many [opportunities] tonight, but it was a great ball in and Jonny’s got his head on it. That put us in a real good position in the game to win it, but we unfortunately couldn’t do that." Although frustrated not to return to Leicester with a fourth consecutive victory in all competitions, Rodgers says preparations will begin in earnest for next Friday's visit of Newcastle to King Power Stadium (8pm BST kick-off). "It’s really exciting," he added. "We’ve beaten last season’s total for points. We wanted to win here because that’s the mentality of the team, but it’s a combination of us not quite being at the level in the final third, plus giving away a cheap goal, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
"We’ll go again and get ready for an exciting game next Friday."
