Mick was a hard-tackling midfield player who was signed for Leicester City from Bradford City by David Pleat in March 1989 in a £250,000 swap deal which saw Jimmy Quinn moving in the opposite direction.
Mick had already made over 200 appearances for Halifax Town, Huddersfield Town and Middlesbrough before Alan Ball signed him for Portsmouth in the summer of 1984.
At Portsmouth he was capped by the Republic of Ireland and won promotion to the top flight in 1987, before being sold to Bradford City in January 1988.
Mick’s stay at Leicester was brief as he moved to Luton Town in August 1989, in a part exchange deal which brought Rob Johnson and £150,000 to Leicester City. He subsequently rejoined Alan Ball at Stoke City as well as playing for Chesterfield and Wigan Athletic.
The Club’s thoughts are with Mick’s family and friends at this sad time.
