Beaglehole Frustrated By Derby Defeat

Steve Beaglehole, the Club’s Senior Development Phase Coach, feels Leicester City’s Under-23s had too many players performing below their usual level in Friday’s 1-0 defeat by Derby County on Friday.

- The result sees the Foxes drop down to fourth in Premier League 2
- Steve Beaglehole was nonetheless pleased to have players back from injury

Cameron Cresswell’s 29th-minute strike was enough for the Rams to leave King Power Stadium with three points which elevate them above City in the Premier League 2 Division 1 standings.

Speaking to LCFC TV following full-time, Beaglehole said: ‘The worst thing that could’ve happened was going a goal down because Derby did well to kill the game and slow it down.

“They made it difficult for us to get any sort of tempo in the game but it’s important that we perform in those circumstances and we had a few decent personal performances.”

Beaglehole was pleased to see Sam Hughes, Layton Ndukwu and Raúl Uche Rubio return to the squad after lengthy spells out with injury.

The Under-23s coach picked out Hughes and goalkeeper Viktor Johansson for praise on an otherwise frustrating evening.

“We had Sam back in the side after such a long time,” he added. “He isn’t back to his best yet, but he did well, he won his headers and not made any errors.

You want to have players coming into a team that’s confident and winning but we didn’t see that tonight.

“He got through the game sensibly and intelligently while I don’t think Viktor can be criticised either because he had very little to do and he did his job well too.

“Unfortunately, a few too many of our players had off days. Leading up to the game, training was good on the back of the last game.

“It was only two or three weeks ago that we played so well against Feyenoord, where we were absolutely excellent, and the same can be said of our game at Swansea a few weeks back.

“However, it wasn’t the same today. You want to have players coming into a team that’s confident and winning but we didn’t see that tonight.”
