While Javi Gracia’s men suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat by Liverpool in midweek, they sit eighth in the Premier League rankings with 10 fixtures to play.

Chilwell’s weekend target is for City to record back-to-back triumphs for the first time since December, but the left-back knows Watford will be a significant threat having won three of their last four games in all competitions.

“You can’t really take games against Liverpool in too much,” said Chilwell ahead of Sunday’s game against the Hornets.

“They’re playing really well, they’re a good team and last season when we went there, we had a really difficult game.

“It’s a tough stadium to go to, so we know it is going to be a hard game, but you know these are games we need to be winning if we do want to be challenging around the top-six area.”

Chilwell is likely to come up against Spain international winger Gerard Deulofeu, who scored Watford’s first ever Premier League hat-trick during the 5-1 victory at Cardiff City last weekend.

Just attacking generally, they’ve got a good presence up front and on the wings, they are quick and they are scoring a lot of goals at the moment.

Recalling his last duel with the winger, Chilwell said: “He played on my wing and was very tricky. He has played for Barcelona, he has played for Everton, so obviously he’s a very good player and someone we are going to have to be wary of.

“Just attacking generally, they’ve got a good presence up front and on the wings, they are quick and they are scoring a lot of goals at the moment, so for us it is going to be about trying to limit their goals and when we do have the ball, being clinical.”
