Vardy: I’ll Keep Knuckling Down

Jamie Vardy has vowed to continue his hard work for Leicester City after scoring his 100th goal for the Football Club last weekend.
More on this story...

His brace against Fulham saw him become only the seventh player to ever hit a century of goals for the Foxes, and he is now only three behind Academy graduate Gary Lineker.

Reflecting on a significant milestone in his incredible career, Vardy’s first target is now to build on the 12 Premier League goals he has netted this term, with four of those coming in his last three outings.

“It’s a great feeling,” Vardy told LCFC TV. “Obviously, we didn’t know at the start if it was 98 or 99, so I think it’s a good job I put the two in!

“I’m just like any striker. You want to obviously score as many as possible and pick up points for your team. I’ll just keep doing that. I’ll just keep knuckling down and like I say, hopefully more goals will come.

“That’s the main thing you want, you want to be scoring goals and picking up points for the Club. It’s a Club where I’ve been since 2012, so long may that continue.”

Vardy Reflects On A Century For The Foxes

Jamie Vardy spoke to LCFC TV after becoming only the seventh player to score 100 goals for the Football Club.

Vardy’s maiden strike for Leicester City came in a 4-0 triumph over Torquay United on his debut in the League Cup in August 2012. He went on to score a further four goals for the Club that term before bagging 16 in the following season.

Recalling when he first joined the Foxes, Vardy continued: “I was just obviously knuckling down and taking each day as it comes just to obviously see where it could take me. Obviously, you’ve seen I’ve managed to get to the 100-mark, but hopefully there’s more to come.

“I remember the goal [vs. Torquay], I don’t think you can forget the first one. I think it was Ben Marshall who hit a diagonal pass into the area, and I managed to get a header in front of the ‘keeper.”

Vardy is now only 26 goals away from notching 100 Premier League goals – a feat only four stars currently plying their trade in England’s top flight have achieved.

It’s been a lot of hard work, but there’s still a lot more to knuckle down with and concentrate on to hopefully keep taking over these next milestones.

“It would obviously be massive to end up in that bracket with some of the big names that are in there,” said the 32-year-old striker.

“It can only be an absolute honour, but it’s down to me to knuckle down and keep making sure that the goals come.”

Vardy’s achievement is one that he is immensely proud of, but the frontman knows he could not have hit the heights he has done without his fellow Foxes.

“It’s from the goals that I’ve managed to score,” he said. “But also, team-mates getting me into the positions and playing me the balls.

Academy graduate Harvey Barnes set up Jamie Vardy for his 100th Leicester City goal during the 3-1 win over Fulham.

“It’s been a lot of hard work, but there’s still a lot more to knuckle down with and concentrate on to hopefully keep taking over these next milestones.”

Vardy’s record against the Premier League’s top clubs speaks for itself. He has scored seven times against Liverpool, six times versus Arsenal, five against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton and four against Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, while the striker was happy to acknowledge his impressive record against England’s elite sides, he sees that as an opportunity to improve against the remaining Premier League outfits.

He added: “When I look at it like that, I think it just shows that I need to keep working hard to make sure that I’m hopefully getting on the scoresheet against the other teams as well.”
