A resilient performance against Burnley on Saturday yielded three points at Turf Moor and Maddison, the scorer of an outstanding opener for the Foxes, took great satisfaction from the result.

Maddison’s first half free-kick was initially equalised by Dwight McNeil but Wes Morgan, who replaced the dismissed Harry Maguire after just four minutes, won it for City in added time.

When asked at full-time in Lancashire if the result can provide Leicester with momentum, England Under-21s midfielder Maddison said: “That’s it, I’ve said it since the manager came in.

Maddison: That Goal Meant A Lot

City midfielder James Maddison talks to LCFC TV after his goal helped the Foxes to a 2-1 victory over Burnley...

“There was a lift at the Club, whether that’s through training, new personnel coming in or new coaches. There has been a lift, it’s been obvious to see and I think that’s shown in our performances.

“Back-to-back wins in the Premier League is always a good thing and we can go into the international break a happy squad and come back ready and firing.”

Maddison enjoyed the manner of City’s victory, too, as Brendan Rodgers’ men fought valiantly to carve out a victory with 10 men against an opponent who are notoriously tough to beat.

“It was a fantastic way to win the game,” the 22-year-old added. “I mean, you saw the scenes at the end, it was a brilliant day.

“Obviously, going down to 10 men so early, you just think it’s going to be one of those days.

“At Burnley, in those conditions (it can be tough), but we ground out three points and we were thoroughly deserving of them, so we’re really happy.

“Sometimes you have those games when it’s not all about pretty football and getting it down and passing it. You’ve just got to grind it out and it was one of those days.

“We did that to a man, everyone in there can come away... you should’ve seen some of the faces, the lads are knackered in there, because they put everything into the game.

“Like I said, we fully deserved the three points, so really happy.”
