Rodgers: We Had Chances Of Our Own

Brendan Rodgers says Leicester City came up against some top-class players on Sunday, but also had their own goalscoring opportunities during their goalless Premier League draw with Chelsea.

- Brendan Rodgers reflected on what he labelled a ‘good, attacking game’ following Sunday’s goalless draw with Chelsea
- The Foxes finished 2018/19 in ninth position in the Premier League table
- The encounter will be assessed on Monday night’s Extra-Time show at 6pm BST

Kasper Schmeichel had to pull off a fine point-blank save on three minutes to deny Ross Barkley, while Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans both went close for the Foxes.

The draw resulted in City – who have delivered some fine performances under Rodgers – finishing the 2018/19 campaign in ninth position.

“It was a good game,” said Rodgers. “I thought that both teams you could see were trying to win. Conditions, it was a hot day but, I thought we played well.

“We were obviously playing against top class players that can create opportunities and they had one early on which we got away with, but we also had chances of our own, so I thought for an end of season game it was a good, attacking game.

Development Encourages Rodgers

Leicester City Manager Brendan Rodgers is enthused with his side's development since his arrival to King Power Stadium.

“We managed to keep a clean sheet and like I said, [we] take a point so there's lots of positives from the game.”

During their encounters with Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, City conceded just once and collected four points from a possible nine.

He continued: “I think that with that level of opponent defensively we were very strong. The areas that we need to be better in is sometimes retaining the ball and just having the ball for longer periods.

“They’re (Chelsea) a top class side in that top four and they can nurse the ball well but that's something that will come with us.

I think the players have been developing and developing right the way through the season so far and like I said, in my period now with them there's so much to be encouraged about

“The players have been absolutely brilliant, these three months have been invaluable for me to assess the players and I am really encouraged going into next season.”

With a crop of exciting young talent, combined with some seasoned professionals, Rodgers is excited with the way his side are developing.

“I think the players have been developing and developing right the way through the season so far and like I said, in my period now with them there's so much to be encouraged about,” added Rodgers.

“We've got some fantastic talents, top class players and like I say, we're looking to increase their level of the quality in our game and like I say, I'm very enthused about that. If we're able to have a good pre-season, we can hopefully start the season very strong.”
