Ndidi's Nigeria Miss Out As Slimani's Algeria Reach AFCON Final

Wilfred Ndidi's Nigeria suffered a heartbreakingly late 2-1 defeat by Algeria - who had Islam Slimani on the bench - in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday evening.
More on this story...

- Wilfred Ndidi and Nigeria lost out to Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations Semi-Finals on Sunday
- The Foxes midfielder played the full 90 minutes for the Super Eagles in Cairo, Egypt
- Fellow City star Islam Slimani was an unused substitute for the triumphant Desert Foxes
- Nigeria will face Senegal in the competition's final on Friday night (8pm BST kick-off)

In the 40th minute, an own goal from William Troost-Ekong handed the Desert Foxes the lead, but a penalty from former Watford striker Odion Ighalo in the 72nd minute made it 1-1.

It seemed destined to go to extra-time and possibly penalties at Cairo International Stadium with both sides being frustrated by their respective opposition goalkeepers in the latter moments.

However, in the fifth minute of added time, former Fox Riyad Mahrez dramatically struck for Algeria to confirm their place alongside Senegal in the final in Cairo on Friday (8pm BST kick-off).

While an on-field encounter of two Leicester stars did not occur, with Slimani remaining as an unused substitute, the 31-year-old could yet represent his country against Senegal later this week.

The City striker has so far starred twice for Algeria in Egypt this summer, scoring in the group stage against Tanzania and netting a penalty in a last-eight shootout victory over Ivory Coast.

Ndidi's Nigeria, meanwhile, progressed to the last four by finishing second in Group B, defeating Burundi and Guinea but losing out to Madagascar, before overcoming Cameroon and South Africa.

Apart from the opening 45 minutes against Madagascar, City's No.25, who made 38 appearances for City last season, has been ever-present for the Super Eagles over the past three weeks.

The 22-year-old midfielder could still feature in Wednesday night's third-place play-off, however, when Nigeria will tackle Tunisia at Al-Salam Stadium Cairo (8pm BST kick-off).

Leicester City supporters can find out how both Slimani and Ndidi fare in their fixtures by keeping an eye on the Club's social media channels and LCFC.com.
