The Foxes overcame their Sky Bet League 2 hosts courtesy of Ayoze Pérez's strike before half-time at Glanford Park as Rodgers used 21 players during the 90 minutes.

Following City's first pre-season outing of the summer, Rodgers found much to be pleased about, but was keen to stress the degree of work which is yet to come over the summer.

"That was a good exercise for fitness," he told LCFC TV. "These types of games are important for us and it’s just the players getting the geography of the pitch again, getting the space in.

"Of course, as they gain more fitness, they’ll become that bit sharper in their pressing and chances. I thought, in particular during the first half, we created good chances.

"We showed real quality considering it is this early on in pre-season so I’m very pleased because it’s very early and there’s a lot of work to do."

Rodgers also reserved praise for Pérez, who marked his first outing in Leicester's colours with a goal and by carving out a host of first half opportunities.

We have to score more goals… if we want to progress, we have to get more goals into the team, hence the idea of bringing someone like [Pérez] in.

"Even tonight, when he’s not fit, he probably could have scored three goals," Rodgers added. "He just has that knack of arriving into the box to score, to get shots on target.

"It's something that we want to do this year. We have to score more goals… if we want to progress, we have to get more goals into the team, hence the idea of bringing someone like him in."
