The defensive midfielder played from start to finish on Friday night, as the Foxes recorded their fifth victory of pre-season by beating Atalanta 2-1.

It was Ayoze Pérez and Jamie Vardy who would secure the triumph with their second-half strikes, but Choudhury says all of his team-mates worked hard against their Italian opponents.

“It was good, it was tough,” Choudhury told LCFC TV. “Obviously, the boys have worked really hard and put a lot into training and in the games.

“The gaffer keeps going on about a winning mentality, so it was obviously nice to round it off with a win today, obviously following into the league next week.

“It’s been really tough, especially for the boys that have come in a little bit late and trying to play catch-up, so it’s good to get 90 [minutes] in the legs again.”

Choudhury says it was beneficial for City to face a side that they would not usually come up against, and credited his team-mates for their determination.

I think the boys dug deep and stayed in the game, which is so important. When teams are going to have good spells in the game, which they did in the beginning, it’s important to stay in the game.

He added: “It was a very unusual system, it’s something we’re not used to, but I think we adapted to it well in the second half and towards the back end of the first half.

“They are a very good side. They’ll be in the Champions League next year, but I think we definitely matched them and it’s a good learning curve for us.

“I think the boys dug deep and stayed in the game, which is so important. When teams are going to have good spells in the game, which they did in the beginning, it’s important to stay in the game and they recuperate in the dressing room and go out and put in a better performance.”
