Hirst's added time penalty at New Bucks Head added to Admiral Muskwe's early opener to secure a maiden win of the new Premier League 2 Division 1 campaign for City's youngsters.

Following a defeat at King Power Stadium by Brighton & Hove Albion seven days previously, Hirst was delighted with the reaction shown by everyone in the squad in Telford.

"We’ve set the level now, it’s as simple as that and anything below that now is not acceptable," the England youth international told LCFC TV at full-time on Friday.

We Deserved Wolves Win, Says Hirst

Forward George Hirst speaks to LCFC TV following Friday's win at Wolves for Leicester City's Development Squad.

"What we’ve shown tonight, the resilience, the fight, the game management even, to see out the 2-0 and the 1-0 to the 95th minute, that’s got to be the bare minimum every week now.

"Okay, we could probably tidy up on the ball a little bit, and we play against some good teams, so we’re going to have to do that, but anything below that is not going to get us anywhere.

"Look around this league and there’s not a weak team in it. That’s why they’re in the top league. We’ve got a little bit of time now to prepare for the Arsenal game in a few weeks.

We had to get back to basics tonight, work hard first and foremost, and that’s what we did. We hassled them all game, we didn’t give any of the players peace and we came out with a 2-0 win.

"We weren’t perfect tonight, everyone in there knows that. We’re not getting carried away with ourselves, but it’s only the first win of the season, so we’ve got a few weeks now to work on something to then go down to Emirates Stadium and take on a good Arsenal side."

The confidence boost provided by such a performance at Wolves will also be key for City's youngsters as they look to embark on a positive run of form, Hirst says.

He continued: "It’s massive, especially coming off the back of a battering, if we’re honest, against Brighton last week.

Goals: Wolves U23s 0 Leicester City U23s 2

Watch back the goals as Leicester City's Development Squad sealed their opening win of the 2019/20 season at Wolves.

"We came into training on Monday and the lads were all very, very down. It was just not a nice changing room to be in because we knew we’d underperformed.

"We had to get back to basics tonight, work hard first and foremost, and that’s what we did. We hassled them all game, we didn’t give any of the players peace and we came out with a 2-0 win.

"It’s not always pretty, but if you work as hard as that every game, you’re never going to go far wrong."
