Eppiah Delighted To Put Injury Frustration Behind Him

The Club's Under-23s return to Holmes Park for the first time in the 2019/20 campaign with a Premier League 2 Division 1 clash against Liverpool on Friday (7pm BST kick-off).

Following a slender defeat by Arsenal in the capital last time out, Eppiah, 20, says City's youngsters are determined to get back to winning ways and climb the league standings.

"We’re feeling confident," he told LCFC TV. "Obviously, we didn't have the best result against Arsenal, but you know, we have to put it behind us and go for it.

"As a player, for me, I feel confident. I had a long-term injury, but I feel back to fitness and I feel like I can make a very big impact."

Reflecting further on an injury which has limited his playing time over the past 18 months, Eppiah revealed how frustrating it has been to watch on as his team-mates continued to develop.

The Belgium-born striker was a star at the 2017 HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens, winning the Golden Boot prize in Hong Kong, shortly before his injury lay-off.

Now returning to full fitness, with gradual substitute appearances aiding his efforts to recover fully, Eppiah is excited for what the 2019/20 season may have in store.

"Being injured for a long time is so frustrating," he continued. "You can ask any footballer that same question, especially being young.

"Being around the team and coming to watch games when you’re injured, it’s the most frustrating part… when you know you could potentially do something in that game.

"Mentally around the ground, your head’s just not there all the time. You’re always thinking: ‘What’s this person thinking of me? Is he still showing me the same respect?’

"But because we’ve got a very good team, they make me feel comfortable and got me get through it.

"Obviously, at that time, you need your family, you need your friends and I think that’s the most important thing.

"Right now, I can’t think about the injuries that have happened to me, because that’s the past now. I’ve got to think from now on and I’ve got to think about the future.

"So far, so good, my injury’s been fine and I’m managing it very well thanks to the physios and coaches helping me as well.

"This is a very good club, I’m at a good club and there’s a lot of opportunities and I’ve just got to work from now."
