Beaglehole Looks For Improvement In Liverpool Clash

The Club's Under-23s dominated for large spells at Emirates Stadium and took a deserved lead through Ali Reghba, but ultimately lost due to a quick-fire brace from Tyreece John-Jules.

As the Foxes prepare to return to Holmes Park for the first time this term, following two fixtures at King Power Stadium, Beaglehole says lessons must be learned quickly by City's youngsters.

"At half-time (winning 1-0), great job, a really, really good job," the Club's Senior Professional Development Phase Coach said. "If that’s full-time, it’s one of the best performances I’ve seen.

"Of course, it’s not, it’s only half-way there. Winning is important and not getting a win like that against a big fish is very, very disappointing.

"[Brendan Rodgers] talks a lot about a winning mentality and I felt in that 15-minute period in the second half, there was a few out there that didn’t show the winning mentality we need.

Every team is in this Under-23s league on merit and we've had some good games against them in the past.

"They need that if they’re going to be top, top players because any player that reaches the top has got that. He hates losing and he wants to win.

"It'll be a tough game. I've said it before, there's no easy games at this level. Every team is in this Under-23s league on merit and we've had some good games against them in the past."

However, Beaglehole pointed to the development of several individuals among the Club's Development Squad, including defenders Calvin Ughelumba and Darnell Johnson and midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

"In terms of development for certain individuals, it’s all there," he added. "Bassey (Ughelumba) was excellent alongside DJ (Darnell Johnson) for the vast majority of the game.

"He’s not played centre-back much and we left Luke Thomas at left-back because he’d done so well in Bassey’s absence.

"Luke was excellent for most of the game, but was at fault for the goal, so he’s got to learn from that. Ali Reghba: a great finish. Dewsbury-Hall: I thought he was excellent in the first half.

"So, we’ve gone there and people will have gone away talking about the performances of some of our players as much as they will talk about the performances of some of their players.

"At the end of the day, I’ve got to look at it and say, yes, I’m disappointed that we lost it, but that is a really big positive when you come to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium and play against a good Arsenal side and people will be walking away thinking: ‘Yes, Leicester aren’t bad, they’ve got some good players as well’ – and that’s what it’s all about."

Supporters can watch Friday's fixture live and for free on LCFC TV from 6:45pm BST.
