The Lads Were Terrific, Says Beaglehole

Steve Beaglehole was disappointed Leicester City's Development Squad weren't rewarded more for their work-rate in Friday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool in Premier League 2 Division 1.

The Foxes came back from a goal down, following Curtis Jones' opener, courtesy of strikes from Admiral Muskwe and George Thomas, but conceded an equaliser right at the end through Luis Longstaff.

Speaking after a helter-skelter affair at Holmes Park, Beaglehole, the Club's Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, tipped his cap to the application and desire of the Under-23s.

"When we put so much into the second half, and it was a great response from going a goal down, I don’t think we got the rub of the green," he told LCFC TV at full-time.

"I don’t think anybody would have been against us getting three points tonight. The lads were terrific in the second half, their work-rate, the way we switched the team around worked.

In the second half, we nullified their threat and we played some great stuff ourselves, but I’m disappointed for the lads. They really deserved a victory tonight, but it was a really good game.

"In the second half, we were a lot more solid and looked quite comfortable, but all credit to Liverpool. That’s what they’ve got running through the club, never say die.

"They keep going and going and going and, to be fair to them, they’ve got some really good players and, in the first half, they dominated the game.

"Funnily enough, during the first 10 minutes, we started great and I thought: ‘Go on, let’s get a couple of goals’. But that didn’t happen and then they scored and played some really good football.

"In the second half, we nullified their threat and we played some great stuff ourselves, but I’m disappointed for the lads. They really deserved a victory tonight, but it was a really good game."

Beaglehole also believes Friday's clash is testament to the quality which can be found in Premier League 2 Division 1 as City contest their fourth season at that level since its creation.

"It’s a good test and some of the technical ability at times from players from both sides was breath-taking and the fitness levels, the way they covered the ground too," he continued.

"That’s what it’s about and every game is difficult. It’s hard to stay in this top tier, as I’ve said before, and it gets harder each year, a bit like the Premier League.

"That gets harder each year, the quality’s going up, and teams go down and teams come up that are very, very good. So, that’s what you’re going to get.

"You look at the results, anybody can beat anybody, but you’ve got to be on it to get a result."
