Beaglehole: Maintain Performance Levels

"We want to continue playing well," says Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, Steve Beaglehole, ahead of Saturday's visit of Chelsea in Premier League 2 Division 1.

- The Under-23s manager says the visiting Blues will have several quality players among their ranks

Over the past seven days, the Club's Development Squad have drawn with both Liverpool, in PL2, and Scunthorpe United, in the Leasing.com Trophy group stage, winning a bonus point on penalties.

As attention returns to their league campaign, Beaglehole has challenged Leicester City's youngsters to continue performing and to secure the victory their recent performances have deserved.

"We want to continue playing well," he told LCFC TV this week. "We played really well against Arsenal as well (a 2-1 defeat), we were unlucky not to get at least a draw, probably a win.

"I felt we deserved a draw against a strong Liverpool side the other day and we were unlucky not to win because their equaliser was outside the extra time that was supposed to be played.

"On the back of a decent result at Scunthorpe, we want to continue that. It’s a good opposition again on Saturday, Chelsea."

Beaglehole is wary of the talent Chelsea will have among their matchday squad at Holmes Park during Saturday's 12pm BST kick-off, but he says it is important that City develop a winning mentality.

"They have good players, some of the best players in the country are still going to be in that Under-23s team, even though they’ve got a lot of them in the senior team, so it's another test for us," he added.

Leicester City Development Squad fixtures will be available for free on LCFC TV throughout the 2019/20 season.

"That’s what we want. We want to test these players because our club now is going forward, accelerating again. The first team won 4-0 (at Luton Town), there’s a winning mentality there.

"There’s some really good young players above these, not so much different in ages either, so that’s the target.

"We’ve got to get through this organisation another player into that first team, and these games help us to assess them and help them to get closer to that and that’s the real goal to be honest."
