Susan Whelan Appointed A Deputy Lieutenant Of Leicestershire
- Susan Whelan is named a Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire
- Leicester City’s Chief Executive is recognised for her service to the local community
- A special ceremony was held at County Hall on Monday night
Susan was one of three new Deputy Lieutenants to be commissioned under oath by the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mike Kapur OBE, at a special ceremony at County Hall on Monday evening.
Overseeing Leicester City’s climb from the Championship to the very top of the Premier League and into Europe following her appointment as CEO in 2011, Susan’s efforts to build a robust infrastructure for sustainable, long-term growth has allowed the Club to thrive in both a sporting and commercial capacity.
She has also led the Club’s major capital development projects, including a state-of-the-art, 180-acre training facility to be opened next summer and plans for the proposed expansion of King Power Stadium.
Both will become major assets to boost Leicester’s profile as a sporting capital in the UK and become sources of pride for a community whose bond with the Club has been considerably strengthened in the last decade.
Leicester City Chief Executive, Susan Whelan, said: “It’s a real privilege to be named a Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire. I feel so fortunate to have been a part of this Club’s exciting journey and there is so much more to come. The Club prides itself on its sense of community and togetherness and we will continue striving to build something we can all be very proud of.”
Deputy Lieutenants undertake a wide range of duties and engagements, including representing the Lord-Lieutenant who is the official representative of Her Majesty The Queen for the City and County of Leicester, attending remembrance services and parades and helping to assess local organisations nominated for awards and honours.
The title is the latest honour to be bestowed upon Susan, whose outstanding contribution to the business community has previously been recognised with a Leicester Mercury Business Executive of the Year award in 2016 and an honorary Laws Doctorate from the University of Leicester earlier in 2019.
