Midfielder George Thomas was Sean St Ledger's Man of the Match in Manchester.

Sean St Ledger said: “There’s been a very good team performance, but the standout was George Thomas. I think he was excellent. Not just because he scored the goal, but there was times in the second half when [Josh] Eppiah, when he was playing wide, George has had to come across and help the right-back. Man City like to dominate central areas and the two midfielders have done lots and lots of running.”

Eppiah makes an impression

Since his return from injury, Josh Eppiah has been in incredible form.

Sean St Ledger said: “We spoke about the two midfielders and how much work they had to do in that central midfield area. It was brilliant from [Kiernan] Dewsbury-Hall to find Eppiah. He was a threat in that second half with that directness and that positivity to go on and take on your man. Defenders hate those players that are so direct, he’s full of running, and it was a great goal for Leicester City.”

Hirst the goalscorer

Striker George Hirst has been a useful outlet for the Foxes in attacking positions.

Sean St Ledger said: “That is fantastic football at its best. It started from inside their own half. The combination play between Hirst and Eppiah is a joy to see. It was a great little pass from Hirst. He’s not stood there and admired it, he’s continued his run, and when Hirst is in the penalty area, he scores. He’s a goalscorer.”

An outstanding performance

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall linked up well with George Thomas in the middle.

Sean St Ledger said: “It was an outstanding performance. They started pretty slowly, but came into the game midway through the first half and I don’t think Manchester City really caused too many problems. There was the one save that Viktor Johansson had to make, but apart from that, Leicester City had the better opportunities and could have really won by more.”

City's youngsters were impressive for long spells at Academy Stadium.

Sean St Ledger said: “This is a team that is playing with lots and lots of confidence. It has really good balance in the team. If you look at when Eppiah came on, playing with Hirst, there’s signs of really good combination play. An outstanding performance from a really exciting group of players.”
