Pérez: Keep Our Mentality

As Leicester City prepare to face Arsenal at King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday (5:30pm kick-off), striker Ayoze Pérez says his side must keep working with the same positive mentality that has served them so well this campaign.

In a purple patch of form, City have won four games in a row in all competitions, and could end the weekend nine points clear of fifth place should they defeat the current occupiers of that position.

Under Brendan Rodgers, the Foxes beat Unai Emery’s men 3-0 at King Power Stadium last term thanks to a brace from the 2019/20 Premier League’s leading goalscorer, Jamie Vardy, and a header from Youri Tielemans.

“It’s a big game, an important game, but we are in a good moment and in good form, so we can take advantage of that by keeping up this momentum,” Pérez told LCFC TV.

“The run of winning games we’ve had, it’s important. The other day, going to a place like Selhurst Park, it’s really difficult and we got the three points and a clean sheet.

Goals: Crystal Palace 0 Leicester City 2

Goals from Çağlar Söyüncü and Jamie Vardy seal a 2-0 success for Leicester City at Selhurst Park.

“It’s important, it’s very interesting. We’re doing well at the minute and we’re keeping the same mentality. Above all, that’s going to be important for us.

“The atmosphere is going to be unbelievable, for sure. I’m sure of that, it’s going to be a lovely night of football and hopefully we can also see a proper football game between two great sides that are trying to get the points.”

City’s latest outing saw them beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park, with Çağlar Söyüncü and Vardy amongst the goals in the capital.

“As soon as that happened, you want the next game to come as quickly as possible,” he continued. “When you are in that momentum, you just need to take advantage of it, enjoy it a lot and keep working the same way we are doing at the minute.

It’s special, it could be amazing if I could make it on Saturday against Arsenal in such an important game for us. It will come, I’m pretty sure it will come soon.

“It’s going to be a tough game, Arsenal, they’re a very good side, but coming back to our game, it has to be very important the way we approach the game, as we have been doing a couple of games ago. It’s going to be a great game and a great test for us.”

Looking forward to making a return to Filbert Way after three consecutive away fixtures against Southampton, Burton Albion and Palace, Pérez says he is now in the hunt for his maiden effort at King Power Stadium.

"I can’t wait now to get that goal,” he added. “It’s always special to score at home with your people. It’s special, it could be amazing if I could make it on Saturday against Arsenal in such an important game for us. It will come, I’m pretty sure it will come soon.”
