FA Cup Action For City’s Loan Stars

Six Leicester City players featured for their adopted loan outfits in four different countries in the latest round of league and cup fixtures.

- Leicester City’s loan stars continued their progress over the weekend
- Daniel Iversen and Ryan Loft were both in Emirates FA Cup action
- Islam Slimani and Adrien Silva each featured for AS Monaco

On Saturday, Daniel Iversen completed 90 minutes for Rotherham United in their Emirates FA Cup First Round triumph at 10-man Maidenhead.

Iversen’s 16th appearance for the Millers this term saw them recover from a goal down to win 3-1 thanks to strikes from Michael Ihiekwe, Freddie Ladapo and Matt Crooks.

Josh Knight did not feature in Peterborough United’s 1-1 draw at Stevenage in the same competition on Saturday, but played from start to finish in 5 November’s defeat by Shrewsbury Town.

Knight’s side lost 1-0 in midweek following a first-half strike from Ethan Ebanks-Landell, who sealed all three Sky Beat League 1 points for the hosts.

Josh Knight made his 18th appearance for Peteborough United against Shrewsbury Town in early November.

On Friday night, meanwhile, striker Ryan Loft, having netted the winner the previous weekend, came off the bench to help Carlisle United advance to the second round of the FA Cup.

A double from Harry McKirdy, Olufela Olomola’s opener and a 55th-minute effort from Mike Jones saw Loft’s outfit win 4-1 at Dulwich Hamlet.

Kamal Sowah, currently on loan at Belgian side OH Leuven, tasted success on Friday, helping his adopted side win the Belgian First Division B first period.

Their 1-0 win at Virton, who currently sit second, created an unassailable lead in the eight-team standings, while they will contest the second period in the coming weeks.

Over in Serie A, Algeria international winger Rachid Ghezzal made his fifth appearance for Fiorentina in their 5-2 loss to Cagliari on Sunday, coming on with 17 minutes to play.

Goals from Marko Rog, Fabio Piscane, Giovanni Simeone, Joao Pedro Galvao and Radja Nainggolan put the hosts into a 5-0 lead before Dušan Vlahović’s brace reduced the deficit late on.

Finally, Islam Slimani continued his fine form for AS Monaco, as he set up Aleksandr Golovin in their 1-0 Ligue 1 win over Dijon, while Adrien Silva also featured at Stade Louis II.

In nine appearances, Slimani has scored five goals, while Silva has featured 11 times in Ligue 1 and once in the Coupe de la Ligue for Leonardo Jardim’s side.

Meanwhile, Andy King (Rangers), Fousseni Diabaté (Amiens), Layton Ndukwu (Southend United) and Sam Hughes (Salford City) did not feature over the weekend.
