Jamie Vardy

The Stats: Jamie Vardy, The Premier League's Leading Marksman

Leicester City's record-breaking start to the 2019/20 season has also included a host of notable individual performances, especially in the case of Jamie Vardy.
More on this story...

While collectively the Foxes have made their best-ever start to a Premier League season, winning eight of their opening 12 matches, Vardy, 32, is also enjoying a brilliant opening to 2019/20.

City's all-time top Premier League goalscorer last netted in Saturday's excellent 2-0 win over Arsenal to send Brendan Rodgers' men soaring above Chelsea and Manchester City into second.

In the first part of a short series during the final international break of 2019, LCFC.com crunches the numbers on Vardy's continued excellent form in Leicester colours...

Jamie Vardy vs. Sheffield United

Assisted by James Maddison, Jamie Vardy scored the opening goal in our 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the Premier League.

After 12 matches, Jamie Vardy is the Premier League's top goalscorer with 11 goals to his name, a run of form which has seen him score in his last four outings for the Foxes.

While someway off his extraordinary 11-game streak in 2015 of scoring in 11 consecutive matches, Vardy's exploits this term evokes memories of his 24-goal haul during 2015/16.

Vardy's first came at Sheffield United before adding braces against Bournemouth and Newcastle United, a hat-trick at Southampton, and solitary efforts against Burnley, Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

That three-goal haul at Southampton, meanwhile, was his second such feat at the Club, after scoring a stunning hat-trick against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City during the 2016/17 campaign.

Vardy tops the 2019/20 charts so far, above Tammy Abraham (10), Sergio Agüero (9), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (8), Sadio Mané (7) and Raheem Sterling (7).

Jamie Vardy vs. Crystal Palace

Jamie Vardy's 10th goal of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign secured a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Jamie Vardy is also one of just five Leicester City players to have featured in every single minute of the 2019/20 campaign so far, a landmark reached by 37 others in the Premier League.

From Andre Marriner's first whistle against Wolverhampton Wanderers at King Power Stadium to Chris Kavanagh's final whistle in Saturday's win over Arsenal, Vardy has been there.

Notably, the former Fleetwood Town striker also played the full 90 minutes in August's Carabao Cup Second Round win at Newcastle United, although he did not feature at Luton Town or Burton Albion.

Vardy is joined in City's ever-present club by Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans, Kasper Schmeichel and Çağlar Söyüncü - all of whom have also amassed the maximum 1,080 minutes of playing time.

Over the 32-year-old's five-year Premier League career at the Club, Vardy has played 15,255 minutes in England's top flight, a number bettered only by goalkeeper Schmeichel (16,414).

Jamie Vardy vs. Arsenal

Foxes striker Jamie Vardy finished off a stunning team move to score his 11th Premier League goal of the season.

In a statistic which may surprise some, although not too many King Power Stadium regulars, Jamie Vardy ranks low on the charts ranking the amount of touches made in 2019/20 so far.

Both Vardy himself and manager Brendan Rodgers have spoken regularly about the fine-tuning which has been done to the striker's game, with less reliance being placed on his shoulders in the press.

As a result, Vardy has made just 251 touches in the Premier League season, a number which is lower than 248 active players in the top flight, including Foxes goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel (423).

However, despite seeing little of the ball compared to his goalscoring peers at other sides, Vardy is flying - proven by the 26-time capped Englishman winning October's Player of the Month award.

City build from deep and that manifests itself in the touches charts, with Ricardo Pereira (1,144), Çağlar Söyüncü (997), Ben Chilwell (988) and Jonny Evans (893) making up the top four.

Closing in on another landmark

Best Assists Of The Season So Far

Some superb assists from the start of the Foxes' 2019/20 campaign.

Despite starting the 2019/20 season needing to match his second-best ever top-flight goals tally of 20 to break into the Premier League's 100 Club, Jamie Vardy is now just nine goals away.

With 26 matches to go, the Foxes frontman is closing in on a significant landmark, which if achieved, would see him join 28 others in netting a century of goals in the Premier League.

Vardy has already scored more Premier League goals than Dennis Bergkamp (87), Eden Hazard (85), Fernando Torres (85), Cristiano Ronaldo (84) and Carlos Tevez (84).

Only Ronaldo, who moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009 and then to Juventus in 2018, has featured in less Premier League campaigns (5) than Vardy from that quintet of top-flight icons.

Should Vardy reach 100 goals at some stage in the future, he would leapfrog Ole Gunnar Solskjær, James Beattie (91), Kevin Phillips, Mark Viduka (92), Dimitar Berbatov (94), Ruud van Nistelrooy, Yakubu (95) and Emmanuel Adebayor (97), while going level with Matt Le Tissier (100).
