Schmeichel, one of five ever-presents for Leicester City this season, and his Denmark team edged closer towards EURO 2020 qualification with a 6-0 win over Gibraltar.

The Foxes goalkeeper earned his 52nd international cap, a record for a player while at the Club, as the Danes increased their lead over Switzerland at the top of qualifying Group D to two points.

Åge Hareide's men are also three above the third-placed Republic of Ireland, with a healthy goal advantage, ahead of their final fixture against Mick McCarthy's men in Dublin on Monday.

Schmeichel, 33, kept his fifth straight international clean sheet, his fourth in a row for club and country, as Robert Skov (2), Christian Eriksen (2), Christian Gytkjaer and Martin Braithwaite found the net in Copenhagen. As a result, Denmark remain unbeaten in qualifying, with five wins and three draws so far.

James Justin came off the bench for England Under-21s to help Aidy Boothroyd’s side to a 3-0 victory over Albania in UEFA U21 European Championships qualifying.

The 21-year-old came on in the 64th minute as goals from Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher and Reiss Nelson ensured the Young Lions stay top of Group 3, level on 12 points with Austria.
