The Academy graduate has featured in all but one of City's 12 Premier League matches this season and is among several players to have impressed under Brendan Rodgers' management.

With the Foxes currently occupying second place in the standings ahead of Saturday's 3pm kick-off at Brighton & Hove Albion, Barnes believes the quality of Leicester's squad is paying dividends.

Discussing his recent run of appearances, the 21-year-old said: "It shows that the manager has trust in me and I think there is that expectation to go out there and perform.

Training Special: Brighton

The lads were hard at work as preparations continued for Leicester City's Premier League trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

"Now, I’m very confident when I’m on the pitch. I know better than anyone that if you’re not performing, there’s a lot of quality in the squad that are ready to come in and stamp their mark on the team.

"So, for me, while I’m in the team it’s great and I’m very confident at the minute. It’s good competition. It’s healthy competition and it’s pushing each other on every week.

"We’ve got a lot of quality so we know if we’re not doing it on the pitch, there are players who will. I think as a Club we have our own ambitions. At the minute, we’re probably the team in form.

For myself as well, to play as much as I have, to be contributing with goals and to feel like I’m performing well is great for me.

"There’s a lot of talk about Europe and other things like that, but I think for us at the minute, it’s just about continuing the run and seeing if we can finish as high up as we can."

Barnes admits even the Foxes themselves have been struck by the nature of their start, their best-ever in the Premier League, but the youngster says their inner confidence is another reason why.

"It’s probably exceeded where we thought we were going to be right now." he added. "We were very confident after pre-season and after getting everyone back together after internationals and stuff.

"We knew we had a good squad and a good team ethic, so we knew we could go a long way this year, but the start that we’ve had has been great.

"For myself as well, to play as much as I have, to be contributing with goals and to feel like I’m performing well is great for me."

Live coverage of Saturday's match at AMEX Stadium can be accessed for free on LCFC Radio from 12pm.
