City won Northern Group A, including Sunderland, Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United, and are yet to suffer a defeat in the competition, which sees Football League sides face invited U21 outfits.

Hirst scored a penalty in a 2-1 win at Sunderland last month before adding another to his 2019/20 tally of seven strikes in a 4-1 success over Derby County in Premier League 2.

Leicester's youngsters are due to tackle Darren Moore's Doncaster at Keepmoat Stadium on Wednesday - and Hirst says they are confident about their chances.

"We're going into the game as the underdogs and I know, speaking on behalf of the lads, we don’t see ourselves as that," the England youth international told LCFC TV.

They think they can come out and bully us, so it’s been good for us and we’ve learnt a lot from the experience of playing against Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Sunderland.

"If anything, it’s a good thing, there’s no pressure on us going into the games, nobody really expects us to win against those established Football League sides.

"They think they can come out and bully us, so it’s been good for us and we’ve learnt a lot from the experience of playing against Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Sunderland.

"Hopefully we can go to Doncaster and put on a show."

While City's first team have now won seven matches in a row in all competitions, the Club's Development Squad have sealed six victories from their last six outings.

Hirst, 20, admits watching Brendan Rodgers' side perform so well has naturally inspired Leicester's youngsters on all fronts this season.

We’re the next ones that are trying to get there, to be the next Hamza [Choudhury] the next Barnsey (Harvey Barnes) et cetera.

"It’s brilliant seeing the first team doing it as well and we don’t want to be a team that lets the Club down!" he added.

"They’re coming off the bat, nine goals at Southampton and they’re winning games week in, week out, so now we’ve got to replicate that.

"We’re the next ones that are trying to get there, to be the next Hamza [Choudhury] the next Barnsey (Harvey Barnes) et cetera.

"So, if we’re winning games, then it puts us in good stead to hopefully move up."
