Man City Played At A Really High Level, Says Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers conceded Leicester City's performance in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Manchester City was disappointing in phases, but still found reasons for optimism.

Jamie Vardy's 17th goal of the season fired the Foxes in front, before efforts from Riyad Mahrez, İlkay Gündoğan and Gabriel Jesus gave Pep Guardiola's hosts victory.

However, the reverse in Manchester represents Leicester's first defeat in 12 matches in all competitions and Rodgers' men remain one place above Manchester City in the Premier League.

Reflecting on the clash with LCFC TV at full-time, the Northern Irishman said: "Tonight shows really that we still have a long, long way to go in the development of the team.

We scored an outstanding goal through Jamie, who was a threat all night. I thought he was outstanding in the game and was that threat for us.

"I think it also shows how well they have done up until this point, that we still sit ahead of Manchester City in the table, when you see the quality and the level that they can play at.

"[In the] first half, we didn’t show the courage to take the ball, get on the ball, and we were way too passive, even though we took the lead."

However, despite suffering a first loss since October, Rodgers was particularly pleased with the efforts of Jamie Vardy up front, who scored an incredible 17th goal of the season in Manchester.

"We scored an outstanding goal through Jamie, who was a threat all night," he continued. "I thought he was outstanding in the game and was that threat for us.

"But, [in the] second half, we spoke at half-time about playing with our true face. Even though we weren’t totally at our best, at least we showed moments of how we can play.

"So, you tip your hat to Manchester City tonight. They played at a really high level and, for us, it keeps your humility.

"If you think you’re a really good player, this lets you know how far you have to go. Thankfully, this group of mine, they’re very humble."
