With Wolves next up on Friday evening - a clash which is available live and for free on LCFC TV - Petty, the Club's Assistant Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, is excited by the New Year.

"Ultimately, we’ve looked at 2019 as a year and it’s been a fantastic year for the Under-23s," he said ahead of Friday's Premier League 2 Division 1 encounter at Holmes Park.

"We’ve got the league, the International Cup and the EFL Trophy to look forward to in 2020 now.

"We had a difficult second half of last season, with a young team, but then Hamza Choudhury and Harvey Barnes graduated to the seniors."

There are several avenues a player may take in their development at the Football Club and Petty believes some may go out on loan to test their skills in the Sky Bet Football League this year.

"This year, we’ve seen the team really perform and take on board the things we’ve been saying to them, and hopefully we’ll get two or three players out on loan," he added.

"That gives them exposure and experience in the professional men’s leagues, so it’s all coming together, we’re really chuffed, and we’ve just got to keep going."
