Beaglehole Hails Development Squad's Winning Mentality

Coach Steve Beaglehole highlighted the Leicester City Development Squad's winning mentality after their 11th victory in 12 outings saw them progress to the Leasing.com Trophy Quarter-Finals.

George Hirst and Admiral Muskwe found the net to seal a 2-1 success at Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday evening as the Foxes' excellent form continued in style at Prenton Park.

With City's youngsters second in Premier League 2 Division 1, into the last eight of the EFL Trophy and off to a winning start in the International Cup, Beaglehole was thrilled at full-time.

"We were disappointed that we went a goal down," the Club's Senior Professional Development Phase Coach told LCFC TV. "We talked about the defensive shape from set-plays and our organisation.

I was proud because we controlled the game then and we kept the ball in the right areas. We moved the ball quicker and kept possession at times, so I was a really proud.

"We handled it pretty well, but it came from a corner, in the second phase, so we’ve gone in a goal down. We didn’t deserve to go a goal down, we had the best chances.

"We were playing well in that shape, 3-4-1-2, but we made a tactical change at half-time. We brought the young lad off, Darragh [O’Connor].

"We went to a four at the back and we played three up front and put Ali Reghba on and I thought we had a better balance."

That tactical shift allowed Leicester to create more attacking opportunities after the interval on Merseyside and Beaglehole outlined the quality required for their two goals.

"From then on, we really dominated the game in the second half and got the goal back, a fantastic goal from Hirsty (George Hirst)," he continued.

"I always say about him, he’s a good striker, he’s not afraid of missing. He had two or three efforts in the first half and you always think the next one’s going to go in and it was a brilliant finish.

"Again, the other one was from Ade (Admiral Muskwe), who’s been really playing well. That was a great finish, very clinical.

"I was proud because we controlled the game then and we kept the ball in the right areas. We moved the ball quicker and kept possession at times, so I was really proud.

"It's a winning mentality and it’s a great thing to have at the Club."
