The central defender has missed just one fixture for the Foxes in England’s top flight this term, and has helped his side to eight clean sheets in the process.

Söyüncü has without doubt been one of the most impressive defenders in the Premier League in 2019/20, and says there’s no better division to play in.

“If you ask me, this is the best league in the world, and if you ask the others, they would agree with this,” he said.

“I love playing in the Premier League. My goal is to stay here for many years and enjoy what I’m doing.”

We'll Give Our Best, Says Söyüncü

Foxes defender Çağlar Söyüncü spoke to LCFC TV ahead of Sunday's Premier League encounter with Burnley at Turf Moor.

The City No.4’s senior career began at Altınordu in 2014, before a move to Germany with SC Freiburg arrived two years later, as he became the first player ever to move from Turkey’s second division to the Bundesliga.

“In Turkey, a lot of foreign players come to play in Turkey but not many Turkish players make it to Europe, if you like,” he continued.”

“I was the first one to come from the club to go to Europe. After me, there was Cengiz [Ünder] who followed me to Başakşehir and then [he went] to Roma.”

Back at Altınordu, Söyüncü and his team-mates, at a younger age, were taught many other life skills alongside their footballing education, including how to farm.

“I was quite old compared to the other players who were asked to do this, so I had it easier than the other younger ones!” joked Söyüncü. “We were training a lot more, but they were asked to take part in farming.

“This was good because you learn about life. There’s no guarantee you’re going to become a footballer at the end of this.

“Also, the owner of the club at the time used to tell us: ‘look at all these fruit and vegetables and how it comes to your table. You need to know where it all comes from’.

“He’d say: ‘you are like that – maybe not ripened yet, but one day you will be’.

"Now, they watch us with pride.”
