Rodgers: Get Back On Track Against West Ham

Brendan Rodgers says Leicester City’s ‘wonderful group’ of players will continue their quest to restore the form they showed prior to the Christmas period when they entertain West Ham United at King Power Stadium on Wednesday.

City were beaten for only the sixth time in 23 Premier League outings on Sunday and remain third in the division, six points clear of Chelsea, ahead of their encounter with the Hammers.

Rodgers knows his side are not hitting the performance levels that they were earlier in the campaign, but says the Foxes are always working towards improving their displays in the Premier League.

Rodgers said: “It happens with every team. You got through a period of the season where you don’t quite get the results that you would like. Over the last six games, I think we’ve won two, so it’s not of course the levels that we would want and what we’ve set.

“Now, we understand we’ll be measured differently now because of how well the team have done. I’ve got no doubt with these players. They’re a wonderful group that want to get better, want to improve and they know that to play for half a season isn’t and wasn’t the job.

“It’s to continue with how we’ve been working knowing that we’ve had a little blip, but [it’s] a great opportunity now to get back on track tomorrow night.

“We played better at the weekend and we’d done well to lose the game having created so many chances and what not.

“It was also a demonstration that if you switch off… we had a key moment at the corner where we didn’t do our job and we got punished for it.

“Of course, we didn’t take our chances and then we concede a late goal. That can happen, but I was much happier with the performance level and now we need to take that and to look to get the result into tomorrow.”

Rodgers says the Blue Army will play a vital role between now and the end of the season as City seek to maintain their position in the Premier League’s European positions.

In the remainder of the season, the support will be absolutely critical for us and helping the players, supporting them.

“We’re playing West Ham, [it’ll be] a tough game, and they’ll be fighting for the points as well, but we’re back here at home and we want the crowd to be with us and really support the team,” he added.

“Like I say, now, in the remainder of the season, the support will be absolutely critical for us and helping the players, supporting them, knowing what they’ve given to the season so far, our aim is to finish as strong as they can over these last remaining three or four months.

“For them, we need them to give the players all of their support.”
