Harvey Barnes and Ricardo Pereira both struck in the first half, and while Mark Noble pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, Ayoze Pérez scored twice late on to secure all three points for City.

Reflecting on a positive evening at King Power Stadium, Rodgers felt City played some ‘great football’ to move 14 points clear of fifth place.

Rodgers told LCFC TV at the full-time whistle: “It feels very good, it feels very good that we played that well.

“I felt against Burnley we were coming back to how we wanted to work but tonight, our message was to go and play with personality and authority that we’ve played with for a lot of the season.

“I thought from the very first whistle, the players were very, very good in their work. It was an outstanding team performance full of great football, great defending, working hard, pressing and the boys were very, very good.”

While there was plenty to be pleased about on Filbert Way, the Foxes saw Jamie Vardy and Papy Mendy forced off in the first half due to injury.

Rodgers said of the duo’s complaints: “Papy’s was his knee, but [we’re] not fully sure on how long that will be.

“Jamie, thankfully, wasn’t his hamstring, it was just his glute. He felt a sensation in it, and it sort of spasmed really in that period.

“We’ll have a look at that tomorrow, but it didn’t look too serious.”
