League Cup Third Round
Fryatt is congratulated by his Foxes colleagues at Villa Park.
Megson had replaced Martin Allen as Foxes manager earlier that month, helping to guide his new side to a 3-2 win at rivals Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the second round.
However, City's league form remained inconsistent and they arrived at Villa Park yet to enjoy a success in the Championship under their new manager.
The visiting line-up included several of the players who had joined the Club in the summer, including Bruno N'Gotty, Stephen Clemence and Radostin Kishishev.
Gary Megson and Martin O'Neill
Former City manager Martin O'Neill went up against Leicester.
O'Neill, meanwhile, who won two League Cups with Leicester in 1997 and 2000, handed defender Curtis Davies his Villa debut while also making several changes to his XI.
It took until the 76th minute for the deadlock to be broken and, surprisingly, it was the Foxes who did it as Fryatt latched on to a James Chambers' pass and slotted past Stuart Taylor.
Megson had already departed the Club by the time City's fourth round tie at Chelsea came about, however, as Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart took charge of a trip to Chelsea.
Despite a spirited performance, it was the Blues who advanced, as a Frank Lampard brace contributed to a 4-3 success for the home side at Stamford Bridge.
