Rodgers: We Created Chances To Win It

Leicester City forged enough goalscoring opportunities to beat Chelsea on Saturday, according to manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Foxes drew 2-2 with Frank Lampard’s side at King Power Stadium in the Premier League, with Harvey Barnes and Ben Chilwell both on target, while Antonio Rudiger scored twice for the visiting side.

However, defender Jonny Evans and Academy graduate Barnes both went close with around 10 minutes to play on Filbert Way, but couldn’t hit the target.

“I felt we should have won the game,” Rodgers told LCFC TV. “That’s the disappointment, but there’s still lots of positives that came from it.

“We went behind in the game and showed a good mentality and desire to get back into it. We created lots of really good opportunities against a good side. Chelsea’s best form is arguably away from home, so they came here with confidence.

“We said in the first half we needed to spot crosses better from the dynamic position in the game. We mentioned that at half-time and we did that, so to then lose two goals from two static positions was disappointing. We’ll analyse that and we know where we can be better in that moment.

“A few of our players didn’t organise quick enough, they switched off and weren’t strong enough and that ended up costing us. It’s very pleasing that we kept going.

“That resilience, we took every opportunity to go forward, to create, and like I say, by the end of it, especially the second half, we had the better chances to have won the game. It was just unfortunate.”

Rodgers believes that City’s two draws against Chelsea this term are promising, but wants his side to be winning games that they create numerous chances in.

If we couldn’t take the three points, take the point, so it’s two games against Chelsea where a team that have been in the top four, we’ve got two draws.

The manager added: “We kept pushing, but at the same time we made sure that we closed the game out.

“If we couldn’t take the three points, take the point, so it’s two games against Chelsea where a team that have been in the top four, we’ve got two draws.

“The point I made to the players afterwards is, going forward, we want to be winning these games, and that’s a game that we should have won.”
