Scoring Goals Is What I'm Here For, Says Hirst

City's ninth win of the Premier League 2 Division 1 season puts them top of the table, level on points with Chelsea, although the Blues have a game - away at Arsenal on Monday - in hand.

Following Dilan Markanday's opener for Spurs, the Foxes fought back to lead 2-1 at half-time through an assured penalty from Hirst and a well-taken header by Callum Wright.

However, Jubril Okedina levelled matters in the second period, meaning Hirst was required again to net his 12th goal of the season in all competitions to send his side to the summit.

"We’ve been on about starting games well and we went 1-0 down in the first half and it’s just an uphill battle from the get-go really," the 21-year-old striker told LCFC TV.

Obviously, it’s good to score two goals, that’s what I’m here for. That’s why I’m in the team, to score goals.

"Obviously, the conditions weren’t great either, it was a tough game for all the lads, but at the end of the day, it’s one of them where you get the three points and you move on from it.

"We knew we shouldn’t have been 1-0 down. It’s no good the two goals before half-time just masking the other 40 minutes before the two goals.

"So, we’ve come in at 2-1 up, but we could quite easily have been 1-0 down and then we go into the second half and it’s a completely different game.

"Obviously, it’s good to score two goals, that’s what I’m here for. That’s why I’m in the team, to score goals.

"To come off the pitch with two goals having not really played a lot of football in the last sort of month/five weeks (due to a hip injury) is good.

"I've been ill this week as well, just another thing, but that’s what I’m here to do, so as long as that keeps carrying on, then I can’t really complain about much."

City next face Southampton away on Monday 2 March and Hirst says they are now focused on themselves in what promises to be a thrilling title race in Premier League 2.

"All we can do is focus on ourselves," he added. "If we keep winning games, that puts the pressure on them.

"We’re probably the underdogs at the minute, but as long as we keep winning games and keep putting the pressure on them, then hopefully they’ll crack."
