How Leicester City in the Community Supports The Homelessness Charter

Leicester City Football Club plays its part to help tackle homelessness in the region by working closely with local organisations as part of the Leicester Homeless Charter.

One Roof, a charity specialising in homelessness support, actively works around the city to help change people’s lives for the better.

One way in which the Club provides support is by allocating free parking spaces to the One Roof minibus, which transports their guests to and from a night’s accommodation.

Former Foxes midfielder Matt Piper, meanwhile, recently dropped by to meet current guests, while also engaging in conversation and board games with the people in attendance.

Piper spent time with members of Leicester's homeless community in February.

During the event, staged at the picturesque 7th Adventist Church on London Road, Salma Ravat, Manager at One Roof, commented on the 12-week Winter Night Shelter scheme.

Ravat said: “We have two main projects. One is a housing project, where we provide temporary accommodation, while we also run a winter night shelter, which is in its fourth year.

“From Sunday 8 March, we will be running our permanent night shelter for the other nine months and we are now running two permanent night shelters all year round.”

The Winter Night Shelter rotates to different religious places of worship every night and collaborates with over 13 different faith centres in the city.

This year, the Football Club have very kindly let us use King Power Stadium to park the minibus, which has been huge help as it is so centrally located. The security team and staff at King Power Stadium have been absolutely fantastic, we haven’t had to worry it has been so good.

The Club plays a small, but very useful part to the Winter Night Shelter operation and Ravat said: “We transport guests every day to and from a central location.

”We have always struggled with where to park the minibus. This year, the Club have very kindly let us use King Power Stadium to park the minibus, which has been huge help as it is so centrally located.

“The security team and staff at King Power Stadium have been absolutely fantastic, we haven’t had to worry it has been so good.”
