Five Magic Fuchs Moments

Popular Leicester City full-back Christian Fuchs, a Premier League title winner and former Austria captain, turns 34 today (Tuesday).

Since joining the Football Club from German outfit Schalke 04 in the summer of 2015, the Neunkirchen-born defender has cemented his status as a true Foxes favourite over 129 appearances.

Whether it was his pivotal role in City's odds-defying title success in 2016 and the subsequent UEFA Champions League campaign, or his affable nature, Fuchs' impact in Leicester has been significant.

To celebrate his birthday, LCFC.com looks back on some of his many memorable moments in Leicester's colours...

Fuchs made an immediate impact for the Foxes in a 2-1 win at Norwich.

During the opening weeks of the 2015/16 season, Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri initially preferred Academy graduate Jeff Schlupp at left-back, a role he'd carried out admirably under Nigel Pearson. However, for the visit to Norwich City on 3 October, 2015, Fuchs came into the side, starting a run which would see him become an established part of City's immortal title-winning XI. The Foxes won 2-1, with Jamie Vardy and Schlupp - in a more advanced midfield role - earning one of 23 league successes for Leicester in 2015/16.

A pin-point, no-look through ball to Vardy helped complete one of the Premier League's most famous storylines.

A moment which is etched into the consciousness of football fans around the world - not just those with Leicester in their hearts - in fact included a key contribution from Fuchs. With Vardy eyeing a Premier League record-breaking goal against Manchester United on 28 November, 2015, the Austrian full-back collected Kasper Schmeichel's quick clearance from a United corner. Quickly retrieving the ball and advancing upfield in an unfamiliar position on the right channel, Fuchs looked one way and passed another, freeing Vardy to score in his 11th consecutive top-flight appearance.

A wonderful strike against Palace at King Power Stadium lives long in the memory.

The following season, meanwhile, the reigning English champions were combining Premier League duties with an intrepid maiden run in the Champions League. Fresh from sealing a third consecutive European victory, over Copenhagen, Crystal Palace visited King Power Stadium domestically on 22 October, 2016. Goals from Ahmed Musa and Shinji Okazaki had put the Foxes in front before, with 10 minutes remaining, Fuchs was there to expertly convert a stunning half volley to wrap up a 3-1 victory.

Fuchs added to his reputation as a scorer of extraordinary goals against Fleetwood.

Fuchs doesn't score often for the Foxes, but when he does, they are usually magnificent strikes. That trend continued on 28 August, 2018, as Claude Puel's Foxes secured a 4-0 triumph over Fleetwood Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup. It all started with Fuchs as, in the eighth minute on Filbert Way, a clearance arrived to the Austrian on the edge of the area. Without a second thought, Fuchs unleashed a brilliant volley, soaring past everyone in the area, and crashing into the top corner.

Marking the Austrian's century of Premier League appearances.

Earlier this season, meanwhile, Fuchs passed a notable landmark in his spell at the Club. In December 2019, City booked a record-equaling seventh consecutive Premier League win with a 2-0 success over Watford on Filbert Way. Deputising for injured England left-back Ben Chilwell, Fuchs reaffirmed his vital importance to Brendan Rodgers with a typically assured performance to mark his 100th top-flight outing in England.
