It felt like a long wait before football came back, but already we’re into the rhythm of a busy schedule that must be great to watch for supporters. A game every night and, this weekend, the introduction of the later rounds of the world’s most famous cup competition. The destination of one prize has already been determined and, on behalf of everyone at Leicester City, I offer my sincere congratulations to Liverpool on a thoroughly deserved Premier League title. It’s great to have football back and there’s so much still to play for.
Despite not having fans in the stadium, it’s been amazing to see the passion that still exists from people following at home. I’ve seen so many images of fans continuing to live and breathe every moment in front of their televisions, radios and computers, willing the team on from all over the world. It’s something I can relate to right now and, while I hope to be back in the stadium with the team soon, for now I’m among our supporters, glued to the TV and wishing I could be there. That day will come, for all of us. For now, I’m sure you’ll join me in sending our best wishes to the team for the challenges ahead. We’re still very much with them through all of it.
An FA Cup Quarter-Final at King Power Stadium – particularly against opponents such as Chelsea – would ordinarily create an electric atmosphere, filled with all the colour and energy you’d expect from such an occasion. While the circumstances are slightly surreal, it remains an opportunity for us to reach the last four of this famous competition for the first time in 38 years. The occasion won’t feel the same without our supporters, but the scale of the opportunity alone will be all the motivation the team needs to give their best and fight to the end.
It’s an occasion we could have sold out multiple times and those of you that should have been here have shown extraordinary generosity in your absence. Along with Premier League games that would have formed part of Season Tickets, the value of tickets for today’s game formed a large part of the rebates our supporters have donated to the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation. Your kindness has ensured that over £150,000 will fund the refurbishment of the Kinmonth Unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary, paying for structural improvements, nurse calling systems and much needed staff facilities that will transform a key facility for Leicester Hospitals. It’s our supporters’ gift to Leicester’s Hospitals. Thank you for continuing to help the Club support your communities.
These are difficult occasions for our fans to miss, but we’ll be more grateful for them when we’re together again – particularly if we can be part of such occasions on a regular basis in the future.
Thank you for your support.
