Schmeichel’s Honest Bournemouth Assessment

- Kasper Schmeichel reflects on Leicester City’s 4-1 Premier League loss to AFC Bournemouth
- The Foxes took the lead through Jamie Vardy, but were well beaten by the Cherries
- City had Çağlar Söyüncü sent off in the second period

The Foxes looked to be in control after dominating the first half and carrying a 1-0 advantage into the interval thanks to Jamie Vardy’s 23rd Premier League goal of the season.

But in the second period, City conceded four goals and had Çağlar Söyüncü sent off, leaving the south cost empty handed.

Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, Schmeichel said: “Obviously we had enough chances to kill the game in the first half. But, the game turns on its head with our own doing, my own doing, so I have to accept that, accept responsibility for that. I apologise to the fans, I think we have to look at ourselves very, very carefully.

“Obviously, goals change games and situations change games and we are, like you said, comfortable and out of nothing, they get back into the game and the game gets turned on its head and the game of margins isn't with us. The second goal, it hits my knee, it could go anywhere, really. [The] third goal [took a] deflection and we're out of the game.

“We know it's not acceptable and the manager told us that in no uncertain terms and he's fully right to do so. Like I say, it's time for us to stand up and be counted, be men and take responsibility and be accountable.”

Schmeichel says City must show their character and bounce back immediately when they host Sheffield United at King Power Stadium on Thursday.

When asked about Leicester’s clash with the Blades, Schmeichel said: “[It's a] massive game and that's what we're in football for - big games. So, like I say, it's time to stand up and be counted and we've got to go again.

“I think we have to take one game at a time because we can't be looking too far ahead. We have to win the next game.”
