This Week In History: Beating Brugge, Leeds & Liverpool

The past seven days in Leicester City's history included one of the most celebrated evenings in the Club's folklore as the Foxes entered the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the summer of 2016.
More on this story...

Following City's unbelievable Premier League title success, Claudio Ranieri's men were drawn alongside Club Brugge, FC Porto and Copenhagen in the Champions League group stage.

Having never graced European football's platinum club competition before, the Blue Army were understandably nervous, but any trepidation was overshadowed by excitement.

The Foxes travelled to Belgium on 14 September, 2016 to commence their group stage campaign against Brugge, a side who had troubled English outfits within living memory.

Foxes Win First-Ever Champions League Game

Relive Leicester City's 3-0 triumph away at Club Brugge from 14 September, 2016.

However, Leicester were magnificent, with Marc Albrighton earning the honour of becoming the first man to score for City in the Champions League early on at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

A brace from Riyad Mahrez - the first a stunning free-kick and the second an assured penalty - wrapped up a 3-0 victory for the Foxes and the Blue Army celebrated into the night.

Thirteen years earlier, on 15 September, 2003, Micky Adams' men were still acclimatising to life back in the Premier League after finishing as runners-up in the old First Division in 2002/03.

Nalis Stunner Illuminates Leeds Classic

A famous Premier League victory for the Foxes including a stunning goal from Lilian Nalis.

A match which was expected to be a tight, low scoring affair burst into life after just 20 minutes on Filbert Way as Lilian Nalis sent an iconic volley hurtling past Paul Robinson in the Leeds net.

Paul Dickov doubled the home side's lead shortly afterwards, before adding another late on, and then James Scowcroft's header secured a 4-0 triumph - Leicester's first win of the top-flight season.

Three years ago, meanwhile, Craig Shakespeare was the man in charge of City as Liverpool visited Leicester for a Carabao Cup third round tie at King Power Stadium on 19 September, 2017.

Liverpool Swept Aside On Filbert Way

Goals from Shinji Okazaki and Islam Slimani secured a 2-0 League Cup win over Liverpool on 19 September, 2017.

Both sides made several changes to their starting line-ups, but Liverpool were still favourites. However, on 65 minutes, Shinji Okazaki's bundled effort put City into a one-goal lead.

Although Jürgen Klopp's Reds retained a threat after going behind, the Foxes broke and in fact doubled their lead shortly afterwards with Algeria international Islam Slimani finding the net from distance.
