Iheanacho, Vardy & Mahrez Seal Memorable Gunners Victory

Leicester City's home Carabao Cup tie with Arsenal on Wednesday will spark positive memories of previous clashes for the Blue Army - at least from recent years.
More on this story...

The Foxes have historically found the Gunners to be difficult opponents in the Premier League era, enduring a 23-match winless run against the north London outfit over the turn of the millennium.

However, City have found joy in encounters with the 13-time English champions over more recent seasons, sealing victories from their last three meetings at King Power Stadium.

As Wednesday's cup tie looms on Filbert Way, LCFC.com looks back to the game which broke the cycle for Leicester in early May 2018...

Leicester City sealed their first victory over Arsenal since 1994 in a game which also paid witness to Riyad Mahrez's last home goal for the Club on 9 May, 2018.

Claude Puel's Foxes took the lead inside just 14 minutes at King Power Stadium as Kelechi Iheanacho rifled the opener past Petr Cech, before Konstantinos Mavropanos was dismissed 60 seconds later.

Despite having a man advantage, City still found the Gunners to be difficult to break down as time ticked on and, in the 53rd minute, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang restored parity on the scoresheet.

Members of the Blue Army would have been forgiven for being pessimistic, considering the Club's unenviable record against the north Londoners' but City continued to press for a winner.

Mahrez's final home goal for the Club wrapped up a night to savour for the Foxes faithful.

A 76th-minute penalty offered the home side a chance to banish their Arsenal woe, duly dispatched by Jamie Vardy, before Mahrez - set for a move to Manchester City in the summer - made sure late on.

It was also one of the last matches of Arsène Wenger's tenure in charge of the Gunners and ended with the Frenchman suffering his first defeat against Leicester in his 23rd meeting with the Foxes.

Speaking at full-time, Puel - a former player of Wenger's at Monaco - said: "We wanted to give a reward to the fans. Congratulations to my players because they put in place all of the good ingredients."
